BWS’ representatives Alberto August and Alvan Haynes make presentation to Minister Herman Longsworth On Wednesday, November 28th, the Belize Water Services Limited handed over a check for 30 thousand dollars to the Area Representative for the Albert Division, Hon. Herman Longsworth. The money is part of a 150 thousand-dollar donation by the utility company for the upgrading of Berger Field located on Vernon Street.

Speaking to Hon. Longsworth, he explained that the intention to upgrade Berger Field has been long in the making. He said that when he decided to run for the constituency, he realized that the area where Berger Field is located had been neglected so, he decided to focus attention on development in the area and in particular on the field. Longsworth pointed out that there have been numerous star football players that had their start at Berger Field and, it was only fitting that it be refurbished to ensure future footballers to come from there. He said that the intention is to redevelop the field and in so doing ,uplift the entire neighborhood and also build infrastructure where children can recreate in.

The project will include the construction of a perimeter fence, bleachers, raising of the pitch as well as putting grass down. There are also plans to build a club house on the field.

Longsworth says he is hopeful that the Football Federation of Belize would assist in setting up the club structure at Berger Field.

It is noteworthy that the entire project is an initiative strictly between the Area Representative and the private sector; there is no financing being procured from the Government coffers. The entire project is anticipated to cost 225 thousand dollars.
