Gregory AugustOn November 21st, a jury of 12 people, deliberated for 4 hours found 24-year-old Gregory August guilty in the murder of Alvin Alpheus Robinson. On Monday, November 26th, Justice Adolph Lucas sentenced him to life imprisonment.

August, who seemed jovial throughout the period of his trial ,said that he will be appealing the conviction and sentence.

Before sentencing, Justice Lucas heard mitigation pleas on August's behalf. He called three persons to give mitigation including Avis Williams, a resident of the Mile 8 community; his grandmother, Rosilia Almendarez, and his attorney, Lionel Welch.

According to Williams, she has known August for 15 years. She told the court that she never knew him to be a trouble-maker and that he was always a respectable person and that he used to visit her home regularly. His grandmother, said that she has been his caregiver for 8 years before and after she retired from working with Bishop, Dorrick Wright. She told the court that she still does not believe that he has been convicted for the crime of murder. She said that Gregory’s mother left for the United States when he was 13 year-old and ever since then, she has been taking care of him. She added that her grandson is someone, who stays home and only leaves to play football. She concluded by saying that she does not believe anything they said bad about her grandson as he was always home with her.

Welch, his attorney, told the court that his client has two previous convictions for minor offenses, which do not appear on his record and he asked the court to consider the fact that Gregory August had no previous dispute or altercation with Robinson prior to his death, and that there was no evidence unfolding in the trial that August had any motive for the murder.

73-year-old Alvin Alpheus Robinson was living inside a pimento home alone in a family yard when on May 23rd, 2009, two men entered his home and stabbed him multiple times to the neck and face.
Only August was charged back in 2009 for the gruesome murder. The second suspect was never identified or captured by police.
