Shanice Humes of wesley college scored 9 points against Pallotti HighThe Central Region Secondary Schools Basketball Competition commenced its playoffs round on Monday December 3rd, 2012, at the Bird’s Isle with game 1 in the female and male categories.

In the female game played, St. Catherine Academy the defending Central Region and National Champions and the tournament’s favourite were promptly eliminated from the rest of this year’s competition by no other than the most likely candidates Wesley College. At the sound of the long buzzer it was a 33-31 victory for the Wesley girls, who had lost to St. Catherine Academy on two previous outings. The top scorers for Wesley College were Shanice Humes with 8 points and Genae Samuels and Shanice Neal with 7 points each. For St. Catherine Acadmey, the top scorers were Gilda Estrada with 17 points and Halle Spence with 7 points.

In the male semi-final game, Gwen Lizarraga eliminated Anglican Cathedral College by the score of 69-64. The top scorers for Gwen Lizarraga were Akeem Richardson with 18 points and Emmanuel Velasquez with 12 points. Meanwhile, the top scorers for Anglican Cathedral College were Brandon Rose with 18 points, and Douglas Valley and Kelvin Hendy with 12 points each.

On Tuesday December 4th, 2012, Gwen Lizarraga High School won over Pallotti High School via the default route. And in the male game, it was Sadie Vernon Technical winning over St. John’s College by the score of 63-58. The top scorers for Sadie Vernon Technical were Lincey Lopez with 24 points and Jamal Augustine with 11 points; while the top scorers for St. John’s college were Zachary Usher with 18 points, and Kyle Middleton and Dudley Erskine with 14 points each.

On Saturday December 1st, the regular season came to an end with 4 games on the schedule. In the first of two female games played, St. Catherine Academy defeated Gwen Lizarraga High School by the score of 30-25. The top scorers for St. Catherine Academy were Gilda Estrada with 16 points and Halle Spence with 7 points, while the top scorers for Gwen Lizarraga High School were Ann Ma Chen with 14 points and Shaneen Flowers with 5 points.

In the second female game, Wesley College defeated Pallotti High School by the score of 38-31. The top scorers for Wesley College were Genae Samuels with 20 points, and Shanice Humes with 9 points, while the top scorers for Pallotti High School were Courtney Palacio with 9 points and Megan Longsworth with 8 points.

In the first male game, St. John’s College defeated Nazarene High School by the score of 65-57. The top scorers for St. John’s College were Zachary Usher with 22 points and Jovan Lopez with 16 points; the top scorers for Nazarene High School were Alejandro Baptist with 26 points and Benjamin Hyde with 12 points.

In the second male game, Wesley College defeated Edward P. Yorke High School by the score of 80 to 59. The top scorers for Wesley College were Brian White with 34 points, Wilhelm Franklin with 22 points, and Jaron Palacio with 17 points. For Edward P. Yorke High School, the top scorers were Kevin Popper with 20 points and Gabriel Taylor with 14 points.

On Friday November 30th, in the female game played, St. Catherine Academy defeated Wesley College by the score of 28-20. The top scorers for St. Catherine Academy were Gilda Estrada with 13 points and Indie Dixon with 7 points, while the top scorers for Wesley College were Genae Samuels with 12 points and Shanice Humes with 4 points.
