Belmopan Bandits and Police United seeded as One into the Playoffs Print E-mail

The 2012 Premier League of Belize Football Tournament regular season came to an end on Sunday, December 2nd, with 4 games across the country.

On Saturday, December 1st, at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence Village, the visiting Verdes FC nipped the home team Paradise/Freedom Fighters in a nail-biting game by the score of 3-2. The visiting Verdes FC were the first to get onto the scoreboard when Julio Ayala scored the 1st goal of the game in the 17th minute of play to give his team a 1-0 lead. However, the home team Paradise/Freedom Fighters were able to get on the scoreboard when Eduardo Martinez scored the equalizing goal in the 31st minute of play.

In the second half of the game the Verdes Offence were able to penetrate the defence of the Paradise/Freedom Fighters and tallied two more times. Verdes’ go-ahead goal was scored by Julian Maldonado in the 68th minute of play for a 2-1 lead and then the winning goal was scored by Walter Chinchillas in the 88th minute of play. Meanwhile, the Paradise/Freedom Fighters were able to cut the deficit to one when Delroy Flores scored in the 90th minute of play.

At the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan, the league’s leading team the Belmopan Bandits and the Belize Defence Force played to a 1-1 draw. The goal for the Belmopan Bandits was scored by Jerome James in the 44th minute of play, while the goal for the Belize Defence Force was scored by Victor Nuñez in the 86th minute of play.

The competition then continued on Sunday, December 2nd, with four more games. At the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan, Police United continued on its winning path when it defeated San Ignacio United by the score of 4-2. The Police United Team got on the scoreboard first when Evan Mariano scored the 1st goal in the game to give Police United the lead. The visiting San Ignacio United got on the scoreboard in the 22nd minute of play when Rosny Martinez scored his team’s equalizing goal. Meanwhile, Police United scored the 2nd and 3rd goals respectively in the 41st and 79th minutes of play respectively to extend lead to 3-1. For the San Ignacio United team, its second goal was scored by Joel Guzman in the 87th minute of play to cut the deficit to 1 and then Police United scored the 4th and last goal of the game in the 90th minute of play for the big win.

Out at the San Felipe Football Field, FC Belize walloped the home team San Felipe Barcelona by the score of 8-0. The goal scorers for FC Belize were John King in the 24th, 37th, 70th, 76th and 88th minutes of play; Francisco Briceño in the 77th minute of play, David Ramos in the 80th minute of play and Christian Perez in the 82nd minute of play via a penalty kick.

And at the MCC Grounds, the defending national champions Placencia Assassins defeated the RG City Boys United by the score of 3-0. The goal scorers for Placencia Assassins were Ernie Whyte in the 60th minute of play, Brent Whyte in the 71st minute of play, and Dalton Eiley in the 75th minute of play via a penalty kick.

The semi-final round of the playoffs is scheduled to commence this coming weekend with 2 games. On Saturday, December 8th at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence Village at 7:30 pm, Belmopan Bandits will go up against the defending national champions Placencia Assassins and on Sunday, December 9th, at 3:30 pm at the Norman Broaster Stadium in San Ignacio Town, it will be Police United against the Belize Defence Force.
