Kevin BernardThe Orange Walk Town Council finds itself in a position where it is simply collapsing. When last we reported on the escapades of the Mayor, we pointed on the self-imposed financial struggles in which he had put the Council in. Now, sources from within Town Hall indicated that the Traffic Manager has been given his walking papers. That fellow, in the name of David Madrid, had come in shortly after the PUP took up office at the Town Council but no sooner had he made it in than he is being booted out.

The reason for Madrid's exit is unclear but we do know that he is a ranking PUP supporter and for someone of that breed to be booted out must be for a reason bordering the obscene. As the information becomes available we will keep you, our readers, abreast.

But firing of the Traffic Manager aside, there are countless points of collapse within the Council. We are reliably informed from within, that a vibrator roller that the PUP Council inherited from the previous UDP Council is no longer in working condition. A red dump truck that was used to service roads and transport material has been done in and it is now being cannibalized to keep others that are teetering in working condition. Also completely decimated is the maintenance section of the Council, which started off with 10 weed eaters; that number has now dwindled to 3 semi-functional machines. Adding stress to those who operate in that section, workers consistently complain that there is no supervision and no direction from the Council as to the work that needs to be carried out in the town.

Meanwhile, the mayor is gouging Orange Walkenos forcing them to pay a $60 fee for driver’s  licenses doubling the former price of $30. The fee is now even more than what driver’s in Belize City Pay where the fee for the driver licenses is $40.

And even as the money is drained from Orange Walk residents, reports are that the Mayor is racking up quite a bill in hotels around town and in Chetumal.
Is this what the people of Orange Walk voted for?
