Winston DennisonOn Monday, December 17th,  a jury of 9 stepped into the deliberating room at 10:29 a.m., to decide the fate of 55-year-old Winston Dennison, who was accused of having sex with a 14-year-old girl on three separate occasions in 2012.

After three hours of deliberation, the jury returned with a unanimous verdict of guilty on all charges. Justice Troadio Gonzalez deferred sentencing to Friday, December 21st, when mitigation pleas will be heard on his behalf.

Dennison faces a minimum of 10 years on each count which can run currently or consecutively depending on the judge’s discretion.

Dennis was on trial for three counts of carnal knowledge of a girl who was 14 years 9 months old. According to the child, Dennison had sex with her sometime between April 18th and 30th, 2010, and on August 22nd, 2010 and then again on August 24th, 2010.

The victim testified in camera that on a Sunday in April, Dennison made a proposal to her asking her for oral sex and when she agreed, he had sexual intercourse with her.

She also testified that on a night in April, he met her again and that’s when he asked her to have sex with her. The child said Dennison told her that, “I am nothing without you. You know how hard it is to be around someone you love and cannot touch them.” The 14-year-old said that’s when Dennison began to rub her legs and he placed her to lie down in a bed and there he had sex with her.

On the third occasion, she claimed Dennison told her that she was the only woman in his life and that she was the only one who could satisfy him. He then has sexual intercourse with her. After he was finished, they both went to their homes.

In his defense, Dennison initially chose to remain silent but then changed his mind and gave a dock statement. During his statement, he became very emotional and began to cry so much that not much of what he siad could be heard. He managed to conclude that the allegations made in court against him by the 14-year-old were all lies and that he never touched her. He said he is a good man and did many good things for his family and that he could never do something like what they are accusing him of.

A doctor who examined the child said that she was carnally known.

Prosecutor in the case was Thalia Megan Francis. Dennison was unrepresented in his trial. Prosecutor Megan had called 6 witnesses before closing her case last Thursday.

This is Dennison's third conviction. On January 10th, 2000 he was convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to 25 years. At the time of this incident, he was out on parole after serving only a fraction of his 25 years sentence.

He was convicted of grievous harm on June 21st, 2009 and fine $250.00 in default 3 months imprisonment.
