Hon.On January 11th, Minister of National Security, Hon. John Saldivar toured the site at Mountain Pine Ridge in the area of the D’Silva Forest Station which has been chosen as the location for the new Corrective Training Facility for petty offenders.

The tour was conducted by Commander of the Belize Defense Force, General Dario Tapia; Deputy Commander, Colonel David Jones; Battalion Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Asariel Loria, and Captain Marco Salam, under whose direct supervision the facility is being instituted. Accompanying the Minister on his tour was CEO in the Ministry of National Security, Colonel (Ret.) George Lovell.

Hon. Saldivar said he was pleased with the progress made in preparing the facility for its new function. The facility consists of over a dozen buildings, a number of which has already been refurbished and are ready to receive the first inmates.

The Corrective Training Facility, to be managed by the Belize Defense Force, is one of the new crime-fighting initiatives of the Ministry of National Security under the leadership of Hon. John Saldivar with the full support of Prime Minister Dean Barrow and his Government.

In November of last year, Minister Saldivar announced the establishment of the facilities. At the time, he explained that the Corrective facility will be used as a rehabilitative institution for juvenile habitual criminals for a period of corrective training and discipline. Persons who are convicted of misdemeanors and petty crimes will be sentenced to serve time at this facility.
