International Olympic Committee Officials called on Minister Longsworth Print E-mail

Hon. Herman Longsworth, Minister of State with direct responsibilities for Youth and Sports today received at the Offices of the National Sports Council three visiting officials from the International Olympic Committee. The three IOC officials who included Richard Peterkin (IOC Member) Joanna Zipser-Graves (Olympic Solidarity’s Manager for the Americas) and Nills Holmegaard (IOC Project Manager) were accompanied by Hilly Martinez (Secretary General of the Belize Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association) and Owen “Sonny” Meighan (Public Relations Officer of the Belize Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association).

The IOC Officials briefed Minister Longsworth on the purpose of their visit to Belize. It was noted that the IOC visits 2 National Olympic Committee yearly. Mr. Richard Peterkin (IOC Member) and Joanna Zipser-Graves outlined the Olympic programmes and funding that were available to all National Olympic Committees during this Quadrennial period (2013-2016).

Minister Longsworth on his behalf extended warmest greetings to the IOC officials and informed them that his Ministry and the National Sports Council will continue to work together with the Belize Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association towards the development of sports here in Belize.

The IOC officials and the 2 members of the National Olympic Committee were then taken on a tour of the Marion Jones Stadium.
