MinisterOn Thursday, February 27th the Belize Defence Force (BDF) received three new Mahindra Pickup trucks from the Ministry of National Security.

On hand to make the presentation of the vehicles was Minister of National Security, Hon. John Saldivar who handed over the keys to the Commander of the BDF General David Jones.

Hon. Saldivar told The Guardian that this is the first time that the Ministry has handed over vehicles which it has purchased.  In the past, vehicles have been donated from friendly Governments such as the United States, Britain and Canada. This latest handing over is the last 10 vehicles which were promised by the minister to the BDF.

Speaking to Brigadier General Jones, he explained that the vehicles will assist them tremendously in deploying troops in short notice. It will also increase their reaction and response time. As for the quality of vehicles the BDF received, Jones stated that they are excellent for off road deployment. Over the past couple of months, they have been testing them and the Mahindras are proving worthy for the work carried out by the BDF much of which includes off-road movements.
