Members of the Rotaract Club of San Ignacio fanned out in Santa Elena Town on March 24th to begin their second phase of distributing grocery packages to needy children and adults in Santa Elena Town, Cayo. Visits were made to the ‘Trapiche’, ‘Aguada’ and other areas of Santa Elena Town where a Rotaract member gladly announced Easter Greetings to the recipients.

This is the second time this month that the Rotaract Club of San Ignacio has been activated to do good deeds. According to President of the Rotaract Club of San Ignacio, Astrid Salazar Silva, from the 11th to the 13th of March and in celebration of Rotaract Week, gift baskets were distributed to the elderly and single mothers of Benque Viejo Town.

The Rotaract Club of San Ignacio came out of hibernation in November of last year and since then the group has conducted a Christmas toy drive and visited the elderly at the Octavia Waight Center in San Ignacio. The club has also donated clothes to Mary Open Doors an organization catering to women and children. |

The group meets once a week at Hode’s Place, a popular eatery and recreational center in San Ignacio, where they come up with the latest plans to assist the Cayo communities under the philosophy of “Service Above Self.”

For those interested in joining the Rotaract Club of San Ignacio, there are some basic rules.

“…We would want them to attend our weekly meetings, be active in the different committees that we have…”, says Astrid Salazar Silva.

Official Rotaracters have the privilege of doing service in the professional development community, the international service as well as the fundraising committees and to even lead a service project. While the good is done, members of the San Ignacio Rotaract Club have a chance of building themselves professionally and forming lasting friendships.

Rotaract began as a Rotary International youth program in 1968 and has developed into a great Rotary-sponsored organization Worldwide. The presence of Rotary members, guiding Rotaract in the distribution of goods in the Cayo District on Sunday is an expression of the mentorship that also exists in the various work programs.
