BTL CEO, Karen Bevans, San Ignacio/Santa Elena Mayor John August and Deputy Prime Minister Hon. Gaspar Vega unveil new Telephone Directory coverThe Belize Telemedia Limited (BTL) launched its 2013 Telephone Directory on March 27th, 2013 at the main market in San Ignacio Town. It was a fitting launch at the San Ignacio locality: for a photograph was taken there recently to eventually be shown on this year’s directory cover page.

The Directories come in a standard and a mini booklet formats. Each year, BTL prints and gives out some 50,000 telephone directories around the country.

As an added benefit to saving trees, BTL’s Telephone Directory and Yellow Pages can be accessed from a desktop or laptop by pointing a browser to www.edirectory.bz. The Telephone Directory can also be viewed in mobile devices by logging on to www.mdirectory.bz. For the compact digital mode, the telephone directory can also be downloaded as applications on Mobile devices that are powered by either Apple or Android systems.

On hand for the launching of the BTL Directories were members of Belize Telemedia Directory Service Team as well as Hon. Gaspar Vega, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Natural Resources and Agriculture. Also present was the Mayor of San Ignacio and Santa Elena Towns John August.

Not lost in the morning’s ceremony was recognition of the contributions by Marcelo “Chelo” Riverol, who as part of the directory service team, recently lost his life in a traffic accident. Marcelo was on his way from work and heading to Corozal when the accident occurred. Karen Bevans, Chief Operations Officer, in her message from BTL, stated that Marcelo Riverol was being especially remembered on the occasion for the launching of the telephone directory.

In his special remarks, Deputy Prime Minister Gaspar Vega congratulated the Directory Service Team for their work well done.

“…There have always been able to keep that anticipation of how important and how useful the content of the directory is both in the contents of the book for information, but to many how creative they have been especially with the covers.”

Deputy Prime Minister Gaspar Vega was referring to the picturesque cover of ‘BTL’s 2013 Telephone Directory, which takes a snapshot of a typical Saturday morning “Market Day” in San Ignacio Town. The front cover photograph exhibits a wide array of fruits, vegetables and carbohydrate-rich tubers that are abundantly available at the San Ignacio Market and which are locally grown by farmers.
With the main cover attractively set to invite students, tourists and educators to take a reading tour of what Belize has to offer, the inside pages of BTL’s 2013 Telephone Directory also refer to the country’s many cuisines. A full description and colorful photographs representing the appetizing foods available in different parts of the country, such as the ‘caldo’ in the South and the ‘escabeche’ widely available in the West.

“…And today BTL is highlighting the fact that agriculture produce and the resulting Belizean cuisines place us at a culturally unique status with the region and makes Belize a home away from home for many tourists,” also stated Bevans.

BTL’s 2013 Directory contains a complete listing of cell phones, e-mails and fax numbers. The Directory’s white pages are filled with phone listings of Belizeans across the country, while the yellow pages provide ample information of businesses around the country; the restaurant and hotel guides are given prominence in an effort to boost the tourism sector. For the first time, BTL has improved both the yellow pages classification and the yellow pages index to facilitate ease of use for Spanish speaking customers.
