Alezander Undrwood and Dane Enriquez30-year-old Dane Enriquez and 23-year-old Alexander Underwood are behind bars after they were charged for the attempted murder of Police Constable Raphael Abraham and Special Constable Juan Morales.
According to a police report, PC Abraham and SC Morales were on motorcycle patrol in the Belama area on Saturday, March 29th, when at about  7 p.m., they saw a grey four-door Ford Ranger pickup truck parked in front of a church on Thomas Vincent Ramos Street in Belama Phase 4. The officers approached the vehicle and it drove off turning into Apollo Street.  According to police, When Abraham and Morales rode ahead and attempted to stop the truck, the driver tried to knock down Morales who swerved off the road into the bushes. The truck then sped off but was followed by Abraham. Morales later joined the chase.  After reaching a dead end in the Belama Phase 4 area, the truck came to a stop and someone from inside fired three shots at Abraham. He took cover, leaving his motorcycle on the side of the street.  At this time, the Ford Ranger drove into Abraham’s motorcycle which got lodged under the front of the truck.  It continued going forward and veered toward Morales who had caught up.  Upon seeing the truck heading toward him, Morales pulled out his service 9mm and opened fire at the pickup truck, which drove about two hundred feet away until it came to a stop. Three occupants exited the vehicle and began to run away. Abraham set chase after them with the assistance of a civilian’s vehicle. He caught up to one of the suspects who kept running until Abraham shot him in the left foot. The individual was identified as Alexander Underwood of a Reggae Street Address. Two others were later detained.

On Tuesday, April 2nd, police escorted Dane Enriquez of Nurse White Street and Alexander Underwood to the Belize City Magistrate’s Court. Both men appeared before Chief Magistrate Anne Marie Smith and were read several charges. Enriquez and Underwood were charged with one count of attempted murder upon PC Raphael Abraham. Enriquez is the alleged driver of the truck. He alone was charged with attempted murder, assaulting a police officer and unlawful aggravated assault with a vehicle upon Morales. Enriquez was also charged with damage to property, a motorcycle belonging to the Government of Belize.

Due to the nature of the offenses, bail was denied for both men and they will be remanded at the Belize Central Prison until their next court appearance on May 29th. The men were represented by Alifa Elrington-Hyde. No charges have been levied on the third individual detained.
