Dion McCauley of the Belmopan Bandits scoring against the Belize Defence ForceThe 2013 Closing Season of the Premier League of Belize Football Competition continued over the last week with a number of games across the country.

On Wednesday April 3, at the Marshalleck Stadium in Benque Viejo, the home team Verdes FC defeated Placencia Assassins FC by the score of 2-0. The goals for Verdes were scored by Humberto Rquena in the 11th minute of play while the second and final goal was scored by Rodney Torres in the 65th minute of play.

In the other game also played that Wednesday evening at the MCC Grounds, the defending champions and the current leaders in this year’s competition, the Belmopan Bandits also blanked Police United by the score of 4-0. The 1st goal of the game for the Belmopan Bandits was scored by Jerome James in the 17th minute of play. Meanwhile, the other goals were scored by Deon McCaulay in the 56th, 68th and 85th minute of play that gave his team the 4-0 victory.

On Thursday April 4, at the People’s Stadium in Orange Walk Town, the home team FC San Felipe Barcelona and the visiting San Ignacio United played to a 1-1 draw. The visiting San Ignacio United was able to get onto the scoreboard first when Rosny Martinez scored the 1st goal of the game in the 20th minute of play to give his team a temporary lead. However, the home team FC San Felipe Barcelona was able to tie the score at 1-1 when Clifton West scored the equalizing goal in the 70th minute of plat for his team.

The competition then continued on Saturday April 6 at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan, where the Belmopan Bandits when its fourth game in as many outings when it edged the Belize Defence Force by the score of 2-1. The Belmopan Bandits got on the scoreboard first when Denmark Casey scored the 1st goal of the game in the 30th minute of play for an early lead.

The Belmopan Bandits took that lead well into the second half of the game before the Belize Defence Force’s Harrison Tasher was able to score the equalizing goal in the 78th minute of play. With the score tie at 1-1, Deon McCaulay took advantage of a break and scored the 2nd and final goal of the game for the Belmopan Bandits in the 85th minute of play for the win.

On Sunday April 7, three more games were played in the continuation of the competition across the country. At the Norman Broaster Stadium in San Ignacio Town, the visiting Police United finally stopped its losing streak when it upended the home team San Ignacio United by the score of 4-1. The Police United got on the scoreboard first when Amin August scored the 1st goal of the game in the 16th minute of play to give his team a 1-0 lead. The lead was then increased when Lennox Castillo scored his team’s 2nd goal of the game in the 17th minute of play to give his team a 2-0 lead. The lead was further extended when Orlando Jimenez scored his team 3rd goal of the game in the 33rd minute of play for a 3-0 lead.

The first half of the game ended 3-0 in favour of the Police United Team.

It was well into the second half of the game the 74th minute to be exact that Bernel Valdez scored the Police United Team 4th and final goal of the game. For the San Ignacio United Team, its only goal of the game was scored by Garrett Bermudez in the 90th minute of play.

At the Placencia Football Field out in Placencia Village, the visiting FC San Felipe Barcelona blanked the Placencia Assassins by the score of 1-0. The only goal of the game was scored by Clifton West in the 56th minute of play.

And at the MCC Grounds, Verdes FC edged FC Belize by the score of 2-1. Gilroy Thurton scored both goals for Verdes FC in the 3rd and 48th minute of play respectfully. For FC Belize, Christobal Gilharry scored his team only goal of the game in the 63rd minute of play.
