Having taken a rest in Santa Elena, the riders mounted their bicycles anew early in the morning of last Friday, traveled through Belmopan, enroute to Dangriga. By Saturday, some eighty four riders had arrived in Punta Gorda after leaving their resting point in Dangriga. In all the four stages of riding through multiple Districts, over three hundred miles was covered from the initial point in Corozal.

(The riders took off at about 6:00 am on Wednesday of last week from Corozal, made a 15-minute stop at the Social Security Building in Orange Walk and another one by the Crooked Tree Area and by midday had stopped to re-energize in Belize City.)

All of these activities forms part of the Tenth Annual Ride across Belize and organized by the Social Security Board (SSB) to help two organizations, which are making valuable contributions to Belize. The funds raised by this year’s efforts will be used to assist The Belize Hospice Palliative Care Foundation, a group of volunteers that work nationally to take care of terminally ill persons at their homes. Funds will also be used to assist the Red Cross soup kitchen Program.

For every dollar raised SSB will be matching it up to twenty five thousand dollars. Chandra Nisbet-Cansino, who is the organizer of Ride Across Bells, tells the Guardian that this year’s target is to raise some sixty thousand dollars.

For those wishing to contribute to Ride Across Belize 2013, an account has been set up at Scotiabank Belize with Account Number 1936202 under ‘Ride Across Belize.’
