Ernestina ReneauOn Tuesday, June 11th, Belize City resident, 43-year-old Ernestina Reneau was arraigned on a rare charge of being found drunk in a public place.


She appeared before Magistrate Adolph Lucas, Jr. where she was charged after she was found drunk on Wilson Street on Monday, June 10th.

Reneau pleaded not guilty to the charge when she was asked if she understood the charge and she said yes.

Magistrate Lucas offered her bail of $500 plus a surety of the same amount, which she was able to meet.

Her bail was offered under that condition that she stays away and not interfere with the virtual complainant and that she must reappear in court on all her adjournments.

Her next court date is set for August 6th, 2013.

Before leaving the court, Reneau said that she has legal representation just that he was not present in court at the time.

According to police reports, on Monday, June 10th, 2013, at about 11:30 a.m., they received a call from neighbors of Wilson Street of a disturbance in the area. Upon their arrival, they saw a female who was cursing and crying out loudly. Police say the woman had the strong smell of alcohol on her breath; she was believed to be under the influence of alcohol.

She was detained and was taken to the Queen Street Police Station where she was informed of the offense committed and charged with being found drunk in a public place.
