Gabriel Salazar26-year-old Gabriel Salazar, a San Pedro resident, is a free man since Monday July 15th after he was acquitted of murder by Justice Denis S. Hanomansingh in the Dangriga Supreme Court. Salazar had been accused of the September 12th, 2009 murder of Francis Johnson at Johnson’s Store in Big Falls, Toledo District.

Johnson was killed after being shot multiple times during an allege robbery that turned into murder. Three men were believed to have committed the robbery/murder but they were also believed to have fled the Belize Jurisdiction and ended up in Honduras.

They were later allegedly involved in an armed robbery in Honduras and two of the three men were fatally shot and killed. Surviving incident was Salazar who would later return to Belize where he was charged for murder.

In Court, Justice Denis S. Hanomansingh ruled that the only evidence against Salazar was inadmissible when he concluded that the police used physical abuse to coheres Salazar to give the only statement in which he allegedly implicated himself as being a part of the robbery/murder.

This is not the only murder case Salazar has walked from as on May 30th, 2012, Salazar and three other San Pedro residents were acquitted of a double murder on the island. When he beat that murder, he was further remanded because of the most recent murder charge.
