On July 12th, Gulisi Community Primary School, which is located in Dangriga, concluded a four-day summer workshop which was done in collaboration with JICA - the Japan International Cooperation Agency. JICA has provided NGC, which manages the school, with a volunteer for two years to assist with the teaching of math and science. At least 75 youths from Std. 1-6 came from all over Dangriga, Belize and the Diaspora to attend in the workshop.

Over the four-day period, the youths participated in various activities in the areas of  music, sports, science, drumming, Japanese dance and they also tie-died the T-shirts that they are wearing in these pictures!

The General Manager of Gulisi Community Primary School, Mrs. Phyllis Cayetano, says that the collaboration with JICA worked beautifully since the school's curriculum follows an Intercultural Bilingual Education model.  Hence, an appreciation for Garifuna and Japanese culture was prevalent during the entire four days of the workshop.  NGC and Gulisi Primary School Management, staff and students  want to express their deep appreciation to JICA for their collaboration and  look forward to more activities like this in the future.
