Participants at the International Marketing WorkshopSome twenty-two export-ready Companies from around Belize benefited on Tuesday of last week from a workshop on how to refine their marketing skills. The event was held at the George Price Center for Peace and Development in Belmopan. It was made possible thanks to the Belize Trade and Investment Development Service BELTRAIDE in cooperation with the Inter-American Investment Corporation IIC, under the FINPYME ExportPlus Program.

Topics covered on Tuesday included the different stages of the product life cycle from the packaging, advertisement and distribution perspectives.

“Too often Companies were communicating in opportunistic ways and the problem is if you are not consistent in your communication, then…little by little you start losing your customers, because the customers do not know why they have to buy,” says Belgian Consultant Christophe Jacquemin, who specializes in communication and marketing and was the Facilitator for the day’s workshop.

Present for the Strategic Marketing Workshop was Julie Colinet, Consultant within the IIC, which is a member of the Inter-American Development Bank IDB Group. Colinet told us that the IIC’s mission is to promote the economic development of Latin America and the Caribbean and was in support of Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs). According to Colinet, the IIC provides both financing and technical assistance to SMEs.

FINPYME ExportPlus now exists in 13 countries in the Caribbean and Latin America. It's participation in this first workshop at the George Price Center on Tuesday was just a headlight signal that full operations will commence in Belize, in the coming months. FINPYME ExportPlus is based on three pillars of certification; improvement of management, the bringing of efficiency to the production process and better marketing.

The interaction of BELTRAIDE with Belizean exporters this week was in keeping with its mission statement, which is as follows: enhancing Belize’s prosperity by fostering investor confidence, entrepreneurship and business growth.
