Atlantic Bank and Belize Bank lead in Firms Basketball competition Print E-mail

Kenroy UsherThe Belize District Basketball Association Firms Competition for 2013 continued on Saturday August 3, at the Bird’s Isle here in Belize City.

In the first game played, Customs edged BTL by the score of 74-72 in double overtime. The top scorers for Customs were Winston Pratt with 29 points, 12 rebounds and a steal, Kevin Lorenzo with 16 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist and 3 steals, and Oliver Solis with 8 points, 3 rebounds and 3 steals.

For BTL, their top scorers were Devon Lozano with 23 points, 2 rebounds and a steal, Jordan Santos with 13 points, and Edward Thompson also with 13 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal.

In the second game played, Central Health won handily over Sprite by the score of 63-46. The top scorers for Central Health were Steven Wade with 23 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist and 5 steals, Neil Nicholson with 14 points, 3 rebounds and 6 steals, and Lonnie Trapp with 13 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist and 3 steals. Meanwhile, the top scorers for Sprite were Darren Neal with 16 points, and 9 rebounds, and Troy Williams with 14 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal.

And in the final game of the day, Ready Call defeated PUC by the score of 52-41. The top scorers for Ready Call were Aaron Baptist with 10 points, and 3 rebounds, and Ensworth Ztul with 9 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals. For PUC, the top scorers were Andrew Robateau with 13 points, 7 rebounds and a steal, and Ian Haylock Jr. with 9 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 assists.

On Friday August 2, in the first game played, Belize City Council defeated Courts by the score of 62-59. The top scorers for the Belize City Council were Kenroy Usher with 17 points and 7 rebounds, Cordel Gonzalez Jr. with 11 points, 3 rebounds and an assist and Ian Ferrera with 9 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 steals.

In game two, Atlantic Bank continued on its winning path when it upended Heritage Bank by the score of 65-51. The top scorers for Atlantic Bank were Ervin Orosco with 30 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists and 5 steals, and Iaan Renie with 16 points, 10 rebounds 1 assist and 8 steals, and Keith James with 8 points, and 9 rebounds.

Meanwhile, the top scorers for Heritage Bank were Kurt Burgess with 16 points, 16 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 steals, and Felix Martinez with 16 points.

In the third and final game of the day, Belize Bank won its second game in a row when it edged the defending champions BWSL by the score of 52-48. The top scorers for the Belize Bank were Terique Gabb with 16 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals, and Marcel Orosco with 15 points, 11 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 steals. For BWSL, the top scorers were Lindbergh Graham with 14 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 steals, and Kareem Thompson with 11 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals.

The competition will continue on Friday August 9 with three more games on the schedule. In game one at 7:00 pm BWSL will go up against Heritage Bank, followed by Atlantic Bank against ReadyCall Centre and in the final game it will be Courts and Bowen & Bowen. On Saturday August 10, in game one at 7:00 pm Belize City Council will see action against Customs and Excise Department, followed by Belize Bank against PUC in game two and in the final game it will be Port of Belize against Central Health Region.
