Belize not doing well in Pan American Women’s Championship Print E-mail

Naricia Frazer rounding first base after collecting 1 of Belize’s 2 hits against Puerto RicoThe National Women’s Softball Team of Belize is currently participating in the VIII Pan American Women’s Softball Championship that is being played in Guayanbo, Puerto Rico.

The team has played four games so far and have lost all four games played. On Monday, August 12th, in the game played against the Dominican Republic, Team Belize fell by the score of 13-0 in six innings. The combined pitching of Belize’s starter and loser Francine Hoare and Lisa Jones gave up a total of 13 runs on 13 hits. Jones who relieved Hoare in the top of the 6th inning gave up 5 runs on 3 hits, including a three run home run to third baseman Eduarda Rocha and a two run home run to relief pitcher Geovanny Nuoe.

Meanwhile, Team Belize collected only two hits. The two singles belonged to Designated Player Naricia Frazer and left field Joline Davis.

On Sunday August 11, Belize lost both games played. Belize was edged out by the score of 3-2 by Peru. Belize scored a single run in the 4th inning and a single run in the 5th inning. Belize collected a total  of 5 hits in this game and its offence was keyed by right fielder Barbara Cadle who collected 2 singles in three official at bats. The other hits in the game belong to centre fielder Lydia Cacho, and Elaine Humes who was brought in to pinch hit for Joline Davis in the 5th inning. Humes collected a double in her at bat that drove in Cadle who had opened the inning earlier with a single.

The losing pitcher for Belize was Kenreen Gillett who went the full distance in the game where she gave up only five hits.

In the second game of the day, Belize lost to Puerto Rico by the score of 8-0. Belize collected only two hits in the game and those hits belong to centre fielder Marsha Will and third baseman Naricia Frazer. Puerto Rico meanwhile, pounded the combined pitching of Lanisha Jones who lasted only 1 1/3 inning and Francine Hoare who pitched 2 2/3 innings. The losing pitcher for Belize was Lanisha Jones who gave up all 8 runs which included first baseman Charlise Castro three run home run in the bottom of the first inning.

On Saturday, August 10th, Belize fell to Venezuela by the score of 5-0. The pitching of Venezuela held Belize to only two hits. The singles were collected by centre fielder Lydia Cacho in the bottom of the 1st inning and designated player Lisa Jones in the bottom of the 7th inning.
The losing pitcher for Belize was Francine Hoare who pitched 3 2/3 innings and had relief help from Kenreen Gillett who pitched 3 1/3 innings without giving up a run.
