Belmopan Convention Hotel being renovatedBelmopan City Administrator, Angela Wade, has called on Belmopan residents to be patient as improvements to the City’s market are now ongoing. This comes as cooks from restaurants in Belmopan have been complaining that their only means of re-stocking on vegetables and other produce is by travelling several miles away to the National Agriculture and Show Grounds site.

Angela Wade assures that the market in Belmopan, now under construction, will bring in a new era of cleanliness where bathrooms will be placed at suitable locations.

The Ministry of Works rehabilitation of the Belmopan Market is now being carried out under a development project being financed under the Belize Rural Development Project; 11 Program of the European Development Fund. Work at the market in Belmopan started on May 20, 2013 and is slated to be completed by May 19, 2014.

The temporary relocation of the Belmopan Market to the National Agriculture Show Grounds near Roaring Creek Village has brought some new responsibilities to the Belmopan City Council. According to Angela Wade, the Council has to pay the Cayo South Association for the use of the stalls within the Show Grounds in addition to paying for extra security.

“I ask them to bear with us in improvements to the market area, we are trying to enhance Belmopan,” says Angela Wade.
