Luis GordonOn Monday, September 9th, 47-year-old Luis Gordon, a resident of Amara Avenue in Belize City, appeared in Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Dale Cayetano where he was charged with one court of attempted murder and one count of grievous harm upon his brother-in-law Roberto Gilharry. No plea was taken since the charges are indictable offenses that will be dealt with at the Supreme Court level.

In a report to police, 37-year-old Roberto Gilharry told police that on Friday, September 6th, at about 6:15 a.m., he got up and drove an SUV vehicle inside the yard he lives in. The vehicle belongs to a female friend, Tiffara Torres, who was staying at his house due to a domestic dispute she had.

According to Gilharry, after he drove the vehicle and parked it next to his van, he was suddenly approached by his brother-in-law, Luis Gordon, who resides in the upper flat of a the three storey family home. He and his wife Janelle Gordon, Luis’s sister, reside in the front downstairs house.

According to Gilharry, Gordon had an old shovel in his hands and he swung it in front of him in an aggressive manner and began to threaten him, uttering the following words, “Deh dah wah private property and I nuh wah no visitors and this is not a parking lot.”

According to Gilharry, he then walked into his house and locked his door.

A few minutes later Gilharry exited his house and was walking towards his van, which was parked in the yard, when his brother-in-law, came towards him armed with a shovel and told him, “Ah wah kill yuh.

That’s when Gordon hit him once with the shovel causing him to fall to the ground. He then hit Gilharry three more times with the shovel. Gilharry said he passed out for a while and when he gained consciousness, his brother-in-law, who had broken the shovel over him, took the board handle and continued to hit him in his head. That’s when his female friend Tiffara Torres and his wife both intervened and grabbed him and helped him into the house.

He said that Gordon then got hold of two machetes and was coming towards him with them in hand when his wife and his friend were able to lock the door behind them and held the door so that Gordon could not gain entry into the home.

Gilharry sustained chop wounds to the back of his left ear, head and to his left shoulder area, while his wife, Janelle Gordon, sustained a cut wound to her right hand.

According to Gilharry, this is not the first time his brother-in-law has threaten to kill him.  He said that since he was been deported from the USA some years ago, Gordon has been giving trouble in the yard.
