Lisby CastilloThe 2013 Opening Season of the Premier League of Belize Belikin Cup Competition continued over the last weekend with three games on the schedule.

On Saturday, October 12th, at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan, the defending champions, Police United, and the visiting Verdes FC played to a 1-1 draw. The home team, Police United, was the first to get onto the scoreboard when Bernard Linares scored his team’s only goal of the game in the 19th minute of play to give the Police United a 1-0 lead. The first half of the game ended 1-0 in favour of the Police United.

In the second half of the game, the visiting Verdes FC was finally able to get onto the scoreboard when Jamil Cano scored the equalising goal in the 75th minute of play for a 1-1 draw.

The competition then continued on Sunday, October 13th with two more games on the schedule. At the Toledo Union Field in Punta Gorda, the current leaders in this year’s competition Paradise/Freedom Fighters blanked the visiting Belmopan Bandits by the score of 2-0. The Paradise/Freedom Fighters got onto the scoreboard when Lisbey Castillo in the 49th minute of play via a penalty. The Paradise/Freedom Fighters second goal of the game was scored by Frank Lopez in the 79th minute of play.

And in the final game of the week played at the MCC Grounds, FC Belize blanked San Ignacio United by the score of 1-0. The only goal of the game was scored by Jason Young in the 90th minute of the game for the big victory.
