Hon. John Saldivar, Hon. Mark King and Hon. Patrick Faber meet with Executive Members of the Belize Council of ChurchesOn October 8th, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Council of Churches, the association of Evangelical Churches and the National Trade Union Congress of Belize issued a joint statement in which it called the Public Accounts Committee meetings being held at the end of every month a charade. The release explained that the groups did not support the Public Accounts Committee's public hearings and said there representatives only attended the hearings as observers.

After the release, Hon. John Saldivar who chaired the first two meetings of the PAC, committed to have meetings with the churches to determine what their point of disagreement was and on Wednesday, October 23rd, the meeting materialized. Hon. John Saldivar, Hon. Patrick Faber and Hon. Mark King, as representatives of the government on the PAC, met with the council of churches at the Wesley building on Albert Street. After the hour and a half meeting, Hon. Saldivar explained that it was fruitful. He explained that he was happy at the directions the talks went, and he was of the belief that they can reach a consensus as to how the PAC is to move forward. For now he added that the plan was to have further meetings with the other social partners to talk about the recommendations that came out of the first meeting. That meeting is scheduled for next week Wednesday after which a detailed announcement will be made as to what role the churches and the social partners can play in the PAC.
