Lascelle Arnold hands over pillows to Minister and C.E.OThe Owner of the Belize Dry Cleaners, Lascelle Arnold, attended a conference in New Orleans, Louisiana in June of this year that focused on laundry and dry cleaning for hospitals. The Belize Dry Cleaners provides dry cleaning services for most of the country’s hospitals; therefore, Arnold believes it was important for him to attend.

Arnold says one of the main topics at the conference was infection prevention. He says it was pointed out that infections often spread due to shared equipment and bed sets are the most shared equipment of a hospital. It was at this conference that he decided to purchase over 300 “special hospital pillows” to donate to the major public hospitals of the country. The pillows are waterproof and do not absorb leakage. They can be washed, sanitized and reused over and over again.

Arnold handed over the pillows to the Minister of Health, Hon. Pablo Marin, and the Chief Executive Officer of the K.H.M.H., Dr. Francis Gary Longsworth, on Tuesday, October 22nd. He says it would assist in their infection control efforts. Arnold also says that at the conference he learnt that the outbreak in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital is nothing compared to the outbreaks that take place in the United States, and proper infection control depends on the efforts of every department of the institution.

According to the Ministry of Health, the pillows will be distributed to five hospitals: Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, Western Regional Hospital, Northern Regional Hospital, San Ignacio Community Hospital and Corozal Community Hospital.
