Mayor Darrell Bradley makes the announcement that BTL Park is coming. (Inset) kiosks In 38 days time it is expected that the newly renovated BTL Park will be officially opened to the public. The massive renovations to the park is being done in three phases. The first of those was the reclamation of the park expanding it by 40 percent and thereafter the construction of a seawall. That work began on February 20th of this year. On July 8th ground was broken for other work within the part to commence and that would entail the raising of the park grounds by 6 inches, the construction of sidewalks, the construction of a skating area, an amphitheater, a pier and greening of the park and the placing of benches and garbage bins.

According to mayor Darrell Bradley, who on Monday, October 21, launched a countdown to the opening of the park, it is now 65 percent complete and he expects that by December 7th the park will be opened to the public. At the grand opening, Bradley says there will fireworks on display as well as local and international artists.

Mayor Bradley says that the, "BTL Park Project is a transformative initiative." That transformation will see the park become an economic zone where 23 kiosks for vending will be constructed. Because the park sits at a key entertainment and tourist area of Belize City. Mayor  Bradley noted that the park will be a commercial plaza for the area. He said that he expects that the area will be teeming with economic activity every weekend from Thursday to Sunday. Already the 7 vendors who were present at the park have organized themselves into a legal entity and it is hoped that the entire block of 23 vendors will later organized themselves into an association.

By November 1, the vendors are expected to begin training in business at the Business Development Center which is an arm of Beltraide. They will undergo an entire month of business training after which the Belize City Council will assist them with a small grant to allow them to open their businesses by December 7th.
