The 2014 National Elite Basketball League competition opened on Friday February 7 with a number of games played across the country.

In the game played out at Bird’s Isle here in Belize City, the San Pedro Tigersharks defeated the Belize City based “No Limits” by the score of 83-78. The top scorers for the San Pedro Tigersharks were Winston Pratt with 27 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals, Jamal Kelly with 14 points, Tyrone Edwards with 12 points, 2 rebounds, and 7 assists and a steal and Ashton Edwards with 12 points. Meanwhile, the top scorers for the Belize City No Limit Team were Andrew Ortiz with 23 points, 12 rebounds and 2 steals, Brandon Rogers with 15 points and 2 rebounds and Gregory Rudon with 12 points, 4 rebounds, 6 assists and a steal.

At the University of Belize Gymnasium in Belmopan, it was the Belmopan Bandits that defeated the Orange Walk Running Rebels by the score of 79-69.

The competition then continued on Saturday February 8 at the Andres Campus Civic Centre in Corozal Town between the Cayo Western Ballaz and the Corozal Heats. In this game, the Cayo Western Ballaz bested the Corozal Heats by the score of 78-76. The top scorers for the Cayo Western Ballaz were Richard Troyer with 21 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals, Kurt Burgess with 13 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists and 3 steals, and Emerson King with 9 points and 3 rebounds.

For the Corozal Heats, the top scorers were Geovanni Lennan with 19 points, 9 rebounds and 2 steals, Jason Daly with 10 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists, and Jason Grant and Marcel Richards with 9 points each.

The competition will continue this coming weekend with games in Corozal Town, Dangriga Town, Punta Gorda Town and Orange Walk Town.
