The United Democratic Party Secretariat presided over the 5th electoral convention on Sunday February 16th to elect a Standard Bearer for the party in the Cayo South Constituency. So far there have been 4 other constituencies that have selected Standard Bearers by elections and two that have gone the route of endorsement.

Sunday's convention saw Ralph Huang, Michael Hulse and Ernest Patnett go into elections at the Our Lady of Fatima RC School in Roaring Creek. Like all conventions that the UDP holds, polling started at 10 in the morning and was complete at 5. After an hour of counting 2,194 ballots, Ralph Huang emerged victorious with 1,306 votes; Ernest Patnett received 778 while Michael Hulse received 86. There were 24 rejected ballots.

After the elections, Patnett addressed the crowd stating that he was a UDP and will now unite with Huang to ensure a victory for the United Demcratic Party in Cayo South. For his part, the winner thanked the over one thousand supporters who came out to support him and pledged to work for the betterment of the constituency and its return to the UDP.

As has now become the norm for the UDP, the convention was held without a hitch and the brisk activity of voters turning out was handled with precise professionalism and efficiency. Kudos are in order for the party's secretariat, its chairman and support staff who conduct the elections every week. The next one scheduled is for Cayo North on the 23rd of February where Omar Figueroa and Jorge David Tesecum will go into elections at the CET in San Igancio.
