Delille girls and Escuela Mexico boys are High Schools National Football Champs Print E-mail

The 2013-2014 National Secondary Schools Football Championship came to an end on Friday and Saturday February 14 and 15, 2014 respectively, at the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga Town.

In the female championship game Delille Academy representing the Southern Region defeated Orange Walk Technical High School representing the Northern Region in penalty by the score of 4-3 to capture the national title. At the end of regulation time the game had ended 1-1. In over time the game also ended 1-1 and it was in the penalty that Delille Academy prevailed. The penalties for Delille Academy were scored by Shayama Caliz (2), Naomi Gamboa and Orel Gillett while the goals for Orange Walk Technical were scored by Gisel Baeza and Noriely Terry.

In the consolation game played earlier in the morning, St. Ignatius High School representing the Western Region defeated Gwen Lizarraga High School representing the Central Region by the score of 2-1 in overtime. At the end of regulation time, the game ended 1-1and in overtime St. Ignatius High School prevailed. The goals for St. Ignatius High School were scored by Jinelle Smith while the goal for Gwen Lizarraga High School was scored by Vivica Young.

On Friday February 14, in the first game of the championship, Orange Walk Technical High School defeated Gwen Lizarraga High School by the score of 5-0. The goals for Orange Walk Technical were scored by Gisel Baeza (4) and Noriely Terry.

 In game two, Dellile Academy defeated St. Ignatius High School by the score of 3-0. The goals for Dellile Academy were scored by Shayama Caliz (2) and Naomi Gamboa.

At the end of the championship, Shayama Caliz of Delille Academy was named the Most Valuable Player.

In the male championship game, Escuela Secundaria Tecnica Mexico representing the Northern Region defeated Independence High School representing the Southern Region by the score of 4-1. The goals for Escuela Secundaria Tecnica Mexico were scored by Luis Witz(2), Jamin Posadas and Camilo Sanchez. Meanwhile, the goal for Independence High School was scored by Gregory Almendarez.

In the consolation game, Mopan Technical High School representing the Western Region edged Wesley College representing the Central Region by the score of 2-1. The goals for Mopan Technical High School were scored by Wilber Reyes while the goal for Wesley College was scored by Keeron Young.

On Friday February 14, in the first game played, Escuela Secundaria Tecnica Mexico defeated Wesley College by the score of 4-1. The goals for Escuela Secundaria Tecnica Mexico were scored by Luis Witz (2), Camilo Sanchez and Steve Grant, while the goal for Wesley College was scored by Tyrell Rowley.

In the second game, Independence High School edged Mopan Technical High School 4-3 in penalty. The goals for Independence High School were scored by Wilber Rivas, Anthony Linarez, Osmani Sanchez and Charles Leslie, while the goals for Mopan Technical High School were scored by Christian Lopez, Wilber Reyes and Denivar Chan.

At the end of the male championship, Camilo Sanchez was named the Most Valuable Player.
