Belmopan. April 8th, 2014. The Ministry of Health will be represented this week at the Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission, Organization of American States (CICAD/OAS), Standardized Drug Treatment Data Form Project Training Seminar from 9th – 10th April 2014 in Nassau, Bahamas.

The objective of the training will be to strengthen the capacity of the Research and Information Unit of National Drug Abuse Control Council (NDACC) as well as rehabilitation and treatment facilities in Belize to gather, analyse, and report drug related information in a standardized form.

According to the Regional Drug Observatory, of which Belize is a member, drug treatment is one of the sectors where drug-related data is most underdeveloped. A pilot project on standardized drug treatment data form was successfully implemented in three Caribbean countries during 2012 and 2013. A report from that project indicates that it has been a valuable source of information on drug treatment in the region.

Ms. Ava Jean Budna, Research and Information Coordinator, and Mr. Ismael Vallejos, Director of Jacob’s Farm Rehabilitation and Treatment Center, have been selected to attend the seminar.

NDACC will manage the drug data and coordinate with treatment facilities in Belize.
