Jerome Ferguson Jailed for Stealing Gold Rings in Holding Cell Print E-mail

Jerome Ferguson was sentenced to two years imprisonment for stealing from a fellow detainee while in a police holding cell. According to police reports, on Friday, April 4th, 31-year-old Glen Williams was detained by police and handed over his personal properties, including 0 cash and 4 gold rings. Upon his release the following day, he went to collect his properties and that’s when it was discovered by the police that the items had already been claimed by another man, identified as Jerome Ferguson. Officer Santiago Ciau immediately launched an investigation into the matter and realized that it was Ferguson who signed out for the items. Ferguson was located and charged with theft.

On Wednesday, he appeared in the Belize City Magistrates Court before Chief Magistrate Anne Marie Smith where he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 2 years for the crime of theft. The gold rings were valued at a total of $2,139. In court, Ferguson said, “They deh call Glen Williams name over and over again and so I just answer to the name.” According to Ferguson, the next minute he realized that he was being given all these items and so he just took it.
