Police United opens lead in Belikin Cup Closing Season Tourney Print E-mail

The Premier League of Belize Belikin Cup Closing Tournament continued over the last weekend with a number of games played across the country.

On Saturday April 19, at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan, the home team the Belmopan Bandits blanked the visiting FC Belize by the score of 4-0. The goals for the Belmopan Bandits were scored by Denmark Casey Jr. in the 44th minute of play to give his team a 1-0 lead. The lead was further increased when Elroy Kuylen scored his team 2nd goal of the game in the 47th minute of play for a 2-0 lead. Jerome James then scored his team 3rd goal of the game in the 49th minute of play while the last goal of the game was scored by Jerome James in the 82nd minute of play for the big 4-0 victory.

At the Marhsalleck Stadium in Benque Viejo Del Carmen, the league’s leading Police United shut out the host team Verdes FC by the score of 1-0. The only goal of the games was scored by Danny Jimenez in the 37th minute of play for the victory and a commanding lead in the Belikin Cup Closing Season.

While out at the Toledo Union Field in Punta Gorda Town, San Ignacio United won its first game of the season when it edged the Paradise/Freedom Fighters by the score of 4-3. The home team Paradise/Freedom Fighters were the first to get unto the scoreboard when Franz Vernon scored his team 1st goal of the game in the 20th minute of play for an early 1-0 lead. The lead was further extended when Darwaine Castillo scored his team 2nd goal in the 21st minute of play for a 2-0 lead.

The visiting San Ignacio United finally got on the scoreboard when Trimayne Gentle scored his team’s 1st goal of the game in the 25th minute of play to cut the deficit in half. The San Ignacio United FC offence continued its on-slaught on the Paradise/Freedom Fighters defence and in the 34th minute of play Anthony Gonzalez scored the equalising goal for his team. The first half of the game ended 2-2.

In the second half of the game, the San Ignacio United FC picked up right where it left off at the end of the first half of the game, when Trimayne Gentle scored his team’s 3rd goal of the game for a 3-2 lead. However, the Paradise/Freedom Fighters came roaring back with a goal of its own when Darwaine Castillo scored his team equalising goal in the 77th minute of play. The final goal of the game was scored by San Ignacio United FC’ Wilmer Garcia in the 90+ minutes of the game for the big 4-3 victory.

The competition also continued on Wednesday April 19, 2014 with three games on the schedule. At the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan, the host team Police United edged out its nemesis the Belmopan Bandits by the score of 2-1 to maintain its lead in the closing Season. The goals for the Police United were scored by Clifton West in the 35th minute of play and Harrison Roches in the 83rd minute of play for the 2-1 victory. The lone goal for the Belmopan Bandits was scored by Denmark Casey Jr. in the 55th minute of play.

At the MCC Grounds in Belize City, the Belize Defence Force blanked the host team FC Belize by the score of 1-0. The only goal of the game was scored by Stephen Martinez in the 3rd minute of play.

And at the Marshalleck Stadium in San Ignacio Town, the host team San Ignacio United and the host team Verdes FC played to a 1-1 draw. The goal for Verdes FC was scored by Marlon Meza in the 40th minute of ply via a penalty kick, while the goal for San Ignacio United was scored by Anthony Gonzalez in the 24th minute of play.
