Charged with gun and weed offences Print E-mail

Barry Bernard Johnson, 21, a Construction Worker of #14 Welch Street in Belize City was charged jointly with 32-year-old Steven Olmedo, a Belizean Artist of #2 Bocotora Street in Belize City for cultivation of a cannabis tree. Johnson was additionally charged with aggravated assault with a deadly instrument upon Mark Anthony Jones and discharging a firearm in public being the corner of Hicatee and Dolphin Street.

Allegations being made against Barry Bernard Johnson is that on Thursday, April 24, he allegedly pulled out a .38 firearm and fired shots at Mark Anthony Jones near Rogers Stadium whilst Jones was at the corner of Dolphin and Hicatee Streets.

On the gun charges Johnson appeared before Chief Magistrate, Anne Marie Smith where he pleaded not guilty but due to the nature of the offenses, he was denied bail and remanded to the Belize Central Prison until June 17.

On the marijuana charge, allegations are that on Thursday, April 24, Johnson and Olmedo had in their possession, a cannabis tree. Both pleaded not guilty. While Johnson could not be a free man because of the previous allegation, Olmedo was offered bail in the sum of 500 dollars plus one surety of the same amount. He is due back in court on June 17.
