polie united.jpg - 64.29 KbThe Premier League of Belize Belikin Cup Closing Season Tournament regular season will come to an end on Wednesday April 30, 2014 with three games on the schedule.

On Sunday April 27, out at Toledo Union Field in Punta Gorda, the visiting FC Belize edged out the host team Paradise/Freedom Fighters by the score of 2-1. The visiting FC Belize got on the scoreboard first when Jarret Davis scored the 1st goal of the game in the 38th minute of play to give his team a 1-0 lead.

FC Belize took this lead well into the second half of the game when Steven Baizer scored his team’s 2nd goal of the game in the 73rd minute of play for a 2-0 lead. However, the host team was able to cut the deficit in half when Franz Vernon scored his team’s only goal of the game in the 78th minute of play for a 2-1 heart break defeat.

The competition continued on Saturday April 26, with two games on the schedule. At the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan, the Belmopan Bandits and the San Ignacio United FC played to a 0-0 draw.

And out at the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga, the league’s leading Police United edged the Belize Defence Force by the score of 2-1. The Police United got on the scoreboard first when Lennox Castillo scored the 1st goal of the game in the 40th minute of play for an early 1-0 lead. The lead was further extended when Bernel Valdez scored his team’s 2nd goal in the 73rd minute of play for a 2-0 lead. It was not until the 74th minute of play that Vallan Symms scored the only goal of the game for the Belize Defence Force.

On Thursday April 24, at the MCC Grounds here in Belize City, Verdes FC blanked FC Belize by the score of 1-0. The only goal of the game was scored by Nahjib Guerra in the 11th minute of play.

On Wednesday April 23, two games were played in the competition in the first game played out at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan the visiting Paradise/Freedom Fighters defeated the league’s leading Police United by the score of 2-1. The Paradise/Freedom Fighters got on the scoreboard first when Darwaine Castillo scored the 1st goal of the game in the 12th minute of play via a penalty to give his team a 1-0 lead. However, the Police United offence came roaring back with a goal of its own when Devon Makin scored the equalising goal in the 38th minute of play for a 1-1 tie. The first half of the game ended 1-1.

It was not until well into the second half of the game, in fact, in the 80th minute of play that Frank Lopez scored the winning goal for the Paradise/Freedom Fighters that gave them the 2-1 victory.

Meanwhile, out at the Norman Broaster Stadium in San Ignacio Town, the Belize Defence Force clipped the San Ignacio United FC by the score of 2-1. The home team San Ignacio United FC got onto the scoreboard first when Anthony Gonzalez scored his team’s only goal of the game in the 11th minute of play via a penalty. The Belize Defence Force scored its first goal of the game in the 53rd minute of play by Leonardo Valdez and then the winning goal by John King in the 82nd minute of play.
