Dangriga Warriors pulls off upset in National Elite Basketball Tournament Print E-mail

On Thursday May 8 at the UB Gymnasium in Belmopan, the host team Belmopan Point Bandits defeated the visiting Belize City No Limit by the score of 71-59. The top scorers for the Belmopan Point Bandits were Adam Carswell with 19 points, 8 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal, Christian Rodriguez with 12 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals and Stephen Williams with 11 points, 3 rebounds, and a steal.

Meanwhile, the top scorers for the Belize City No Limit Team were Brandon Rogers with 13 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal, Gregory Rudon with 10 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals, and Brian White with 10 points, 9 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 steals.

On Friday at the Multi-Purpose Complex in Orange Walk Town, the visiting Corozal Heats defeated the home team Orange Walk Running Rebels by the score of 71-55.

The competition then continued on Saturday May 10 with two more games. At the PG Sport Complex in Punta Gorda Town, the Cayo Western Ballaz edged out the Toledo Diplomats by the score of 79-77. The top scorers for the Cayo Western Ballaz were Travis Lennan with 29 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal, Farron Louriano with 17 points, 11 rebounds,4 assists and a steal and Kurt Burgess with 15 points, 16 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals.

For the Toledo Diplomats the top scorers were Elbert Arida with 20 points, 3 rebounds and 2 steals, Jovannie White with 15 points, 2 rebounds, and an assist and Frank Lopez with 14 points, 5 rebounds and a steal.

At the Stann Creek Ecumenical College Auditorium in Dangriga Town, the home team the Dangriga Warriors pulled off an upset when it defeated the league’s leading San Pedro Tigersharks by the score of 58-46.

The competition will continue on Thursday May 15, at 8:30pm out at Sacred Heart College Auditorium between the Belmopan Point Bandits and the Cayo Western Ballaz.

On Friday May 16, at 9:00  pm at Bird’s Isle it will be Dangriga Warriors against the Belize City Smart No Limit. On Saturday May 17, there are two games on the schedule with both games commencing at 8:00 pm. At the Andres Campos Civic Centre in Corozal Town, it will be the Toledo Diplomats against the Corozal Heats and in San Pedro at the Catholic School it will be the Orange Walk Running Rebels against the San Pedro Tigersharks.
