A father and son are claiming that police officers physically abused them on Saturday, June 14, but it was they who appeared in the Belize City Magistrates Court on Monday, June 16, to face charges of assault.

Nestor Galindo Sr, 40, and Nestor Galindo Jr, 21, were arraigned before Senior Magistrate Sharon Fraser on Monday to answer to numerous charges. Galindo Jr. was charged with one count of assaulting a police officer, one count of using indecent words, one count of harm and one count of resisting arrest. Galindo Sr. was charged with one count of harm and one count of assaulting a police officer. The complainant in all charges is a GSU officer, PC Harold Garbutt.

In Court, both pleaded not guilty to the charges. They told Magistrate Fraser that they were beaten by the GSU officers. The father broke down in tears as he and his son lifted their shirts and showed Magistrate Fraser the bruises across their body. The Senior Magistrate made note of what the men said for the record.  They were then offered bail in the sum of $2,000 each plus one surety of the same amount which they met. Both are due back in Court on August 6, 2014.
