Shootings continue in Belize City Print E-mail

Three men had to be hospitalized for weekend shootings in Belize City which happened over the weekend from June 13 to June 15.

The first one took place at around 9 p.m. on Friday, June 13. 40 year-old Walter Beaton was riding his bicycle on Kraal Road, and he was heading toward Fabers Road. When he arrived at the Ross Penn Road intersection, a gunman approached him from behind and fired several shots at him. Luckily, he was only injured by 2 of the shots in his left hand. He jumped off the bike and ran into the Cumberbatch Field, and the gunman fled the area shortly after.

24 hours later, on Saturday night, 22 year-old Efrain Assi was sitting on the basketball court on Alicia Street with 4 other friends when a gunman arrived and opened fire on the group. Assi was injured multiple times, and he had to be rushed to the KHMH for medical treatment.

On Sunday night, at around 10 p.m., 17 year-old Clinton Pou was walking on Poinsetta Street toward his house. That’s when a man approached him from behind and shot him in the left side of his neck, and he fled the scene. The bullet exited Pou’s left cheek, and he had to be rushed to the KHMH for emergency medical treatment.

Also receiving medical treatment at the KHMH is 34 yar old Kingsley Ferguson. He reported to police that he was seated on his bicycle in front of a house located on Jones Street when he was approached by two men riding on a single bicycle. One of the men who was seated on the bicycle’s handle then pulled out a firearm and shot him to the right side of the face. The bullet exited the left side of his jaw.

After the shooting the men kept riding in the direction of Mckay Boulevard.

Police have recovered a slug and a .9mm S&B Lugar shell. Investigations into this matter continue.
