The lives of two men were claimed this weekend due to traffic accidents, 1 in the north, and another in the west.

The first one happened just after midnight on Sunday, July 20. 62 year-old retiree Alfonso Manzanero was returning to his house in Belmopan, and on the way there he ran into a ditch. 3 strangers tried to help him, and when they towed his vehicle out of the drain, his vehicle spun and knocked him down. He was rushed to the Western Regional Hospitals for head and body injuries, but he succumbed while undergoing treatment. A post mortem has confirmed that he died from those traffic accident injuries.

About an hour later, a family of 4 from the Corozal district had a terrible traffic accident, where the patriarch passed away. 43 year-old Rejemio Botes was driving his wife, Vianney Botes; his son, Emmano Botes; and his daughter, Giselle Botes. They were heading home to Cristo Rey, Corozal, but on the way, Rejemio Botes lost control of the vehicle and ran off the road. The vehicle struck a big rock, and the impact sent Rejemio Botes into the windshield. It is believed that the force of the impact caused him to suffer serious head injuries, and he died on the scene. His 9 year-old daughter, Giselle, reportedly dragged herself out of the vehicle, got onto the road, and signalled a passer-by for help. Everyone else was rushed to the hospital in time.
