Winfield Tasher, 40, is out on bail after he was charged on Friday, July 18, with theft of a motor vehicle. Chika Essel, a naturalized Belizean from Nigeria, reported to police that sometime between Thursday, March 6, and Friday, March 7, 2014, Tasher stole his 1992 Toyota Corolla from in front of his house.

Tasher appeared before Senior Magistrate Sharon Fraser to answer to the charge. He pleaded not guilty and told the Magistrate that he was renting the vehicle from Essel to provide taxi services to tourists. He says the vehicle began to experience problems and he left it on the road. Tasher says he was unable to get in contact with the owner and had to leave the vehicle for a while. When he returned the vehicle was gone.

Senior Magistrate Fraser granted bail in the sum of $4,000 plus one surety of the same amount. He is scheduled to appear in court on September 11.
