Giovanni Ramirez, 20, is serving five years in prison for robbery and more time could be added to his sentence for allegedly stabbing Jamal Ariola, 23, inside the prison on Wednesday, July 16.

Ramirez allegedly stabbed inmate, Jamal Ariola, multiple times with a ‘bora’. The incident occurred sometime around 10 a.m. Ariola is said to have been engaged in a conversation with Ramirez when he suddenly felt a sharp pain to the left side of his chest. It was then that he saw Ramirez with a sharpened metal object known as a bora in his hand. Ramirez continued to stab Ariola and he was left with wounds to the hand, back and left foot. He was taken to the medical center where he was admitted to ward. Police were called to the prison and recovered a six inch instrument near the area where the stabbing incident took place. Ariola’s injuries were classified as wounding.

Ramirez was unrepresented when he appeared before Senior Magistrate Sharon Fraser on Monday, July 21. He pleaded not guilty to a single charge of wounding. The case was adjourned to September 19.
