A Friday night fire near downtown Belize City, has left 3 families homeless after their house on Prince Street burnt down.

It happened at around 8:30 p.m. on July 18. What police and the Fire Department have been able to piece together so far is that one of the 4 children on the upper flat was playing with a lighter. Somehow, the child lit the bed on fire by mistake, and then it spread to the walls. It’s a wooden house, and so it spread quickly to the other parts of the upper flat.

Shortly after the Fire Department arrived on the scene, but there was not much they could do because the blaze was already out of control. They manage to out the fire within 15 minutes of their activation, and they saved the 3 other house which were in the same yard.

The result of that fire is that those 3 families, which have 10 members and 4 children suddenly became homeless.
