Police say that the retired educator, 71 year-old Dudley Augustine and his wife, 47 year-old Josephine Augustine were inside their vacation house when two Hispanic men got inside. The couple was viciously beaten and stabbed, and it is believed that Josephine Augustine died trying to protect her husband.

She suffered 2 stab wounds to the back of the neck and died inside the house. Dudley Augustine was rushed to the Southern Regional Hospital by his concerned neighbours who came to his rescue, shortly after the home invasion had taken place. He is currently at the KHMH receiving medical treatment.

His family has since visited the house, and they’ve learnt that the attackers ransacked it, looking for valuables that they could steal. So far, nothing seems to have been stolen from the house, but the men did escape in the couple’s vehicle. The next day, police recovered it at mile 28 on the Hummingbird Highway, and it has since been towed to the Dangriga Police Station.

At this time, the investigators have several men detained, for questioning. 2 of the suspects were employed by the couple to do construction work on the house.
