According to her family, she left her house at around 12:30 p.m. to visit a relative and to go buy rice at one of the neighbouring shops. After she went missing for more than 2 hours, her family immediately began to get worried. They organized themselves into search parties, asking for the help of other villagers. About seven hours later, the search parties discovered her nude body. She had suffered a large chop wound to the centre of her head.

Coc was well-known in the village as a friendly and kind Christian woman, and as soon as the grisly discovery was made, the other villagers became enraged. They organized themselves into search parties to investigate what had happened. Shortly after, they received information that Agripina Coc had complained of a young man she’d seen around the village stalking her. The search teams soon started to behave mob-like, arming themselves with sticks and machetes, and they went searching for this person. There are reported sightings of the young man, but he has not been detained as yet.

Instead, the villagers reportedly detained the suspect’s family and handed them over to police for questioning because there was the suspicion that they were assisting him to evade capture.
The police continue to search for this person, but Coc’s murder has caused the Council on Ageing, Helpage Belize, and the Toledo Maya Women Group to all speak out in outrage. They have all condemned the cruel end that Coc experienced at the hands of her assailant.
