Belmopan City was fully abuzz with spectacle on Tuesday by land and by air, as Belize’s combined security forces participated in the second ever annual Military Parade. Minister of National Security the Hon. John Saldivar was present along with his top officers to view the second annual Military Parade.

Both helicopters and an airplane passed overhead regularly as the parade went along the principal streets of Belmopan. On the ground, human power and military assets were also on display.

A highlight of Belize’s National September Celebrations, the parade featured the Belize Defence Force Infantry, Maritime and Air Wings, the Belize Coast Guard, the Belize Police Department, some elements of our Special Forces and others.

The parade started right on schedule on Tuesday afternoon at the Quality Poultry Traffic Circle on the Hummingbird Highway at the entrance of the City of Belmopan, then proceeded east down the Hummingbird Highway, through the George Gabb Running Man Traffic Circle, and then south into the Las Flores Community.

It was at the Las Flores Community that we stood by and watched as our combined security forces then swung into Mariposa Avenue and then proceeded left to Iguana Avenue and other tributaries.  The terrain was fully covered when the parade then continued into a counterclockwise direction to the East Ring Road, North Ring Road and left into Constitution Drive. At each location community members came out with their children and cameras to record a once in a year event.

An Eyes Right Salute was given to the Minister of Defence the Hon. John Saldivar by each unit when passing the Hon. Curl Thompson Building. The Parade then marched down Constitution Drive, and thereafter right into Forest Drive where the march ended.
