Roger Espejo's Christmas PartyWe don't inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children.

On December 8th, 2012 close to 550 children of the Fort George constituency were treated to an entertaining and educational Christmas party by UDP Fort George caretaker, Councillor Roger Espejo and his UDP Fort George committee. The event carried an educational theme as Councilor Espejo openly advocates that education, not dependency, must be the primary instrument to youth development in the area. This is so much the case that the children were treated to Christmas gifts (toys) only of an educational or sporting nature. Councillor for Youth and Sports Bernard Pitts, Jr. gave the opening remarks and shared like-minded sentiments to all present including parents. He highlighted that the simplest of improper, local practices including the act of sending children to purchase alcohol tobacco to local grocers MUST STOP.

Kids were treated to performances by the vibrant Ernestine Carballo and rising local star ,T.R. Their deliveries were fully charged and had kids on 'full throttle' where they danced and competed for special prizes.

Kids were treated to a healthy meal and beverage as is tradition and were given a special surprise in the end: a special cruise ship pass for 20 children who topped an impromptu quiz. In line with the educational theme, children were asked basic questions on local governance and the first to answer properly received a special pass to enjoy a dreamy, children's Christmas party on board a visiting cruise ship in port. It took little time to elicit the right answers from the smart kids and three short days later, 20 children boarded the ship where they were treated to a once-in-a-lifetime event including performances, meals, educational treats and even magic!

Councillor Espejo thanks all the children for participating (and parents) and making the event a huge success. His appreciation is extended to the Office of the Prime Minister for its support, Eurocaribe & Carnival for the special prizes, and to the UDP Fort George Committee who helped plan an excellent and 'bar setting' christmas party.
