The Pepsi Elite National Basketball League (NEBL) competition continued over the last week with 5 games on the schedule.

On Friday 23rd February at the St. Catherine Mercy Centre in Belize City, the Belize City based Digicell Belize City Defenders, halted the high soaring San Pedro Tiger Sharks by handing them it first defeat of the season by the score of 76-70.

The top scorers for the Digicell Belize City Defenders were Darwin Leslie with 28 points and 8 rebounds; Nigel Jones with 25 points and 7 rebounds and Francis Arana with 10 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists.

For the San Pedro Tiger Sharks, the top scorers were Martevuius Adams with 31 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 assists and a steal and Andrew Ortiz who contributed 8 points to go along with his 6 rebounds in a losing effort.

On Saturday 24th February, 2018, there were three games on the schedule. At the Sacred Heart College Auditorium in San Ignacio Town, Verdes won its first game of the campaign when it defeated the defending champions the Belmopan Bandits by the score of 101 – 70.

The top scorers for the Verdes squad were Isaiah Thomas with 24 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists and 5 steals; Darnell Oden with 19 points, 3 rebounds and an assist and Elbert Ariola who also scored 19 points to go along with his 2 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals.

Meanwhile, the top scorers for the Belmopan Bandits were Farron Louriano with 23 points, 11 rebounds and 2 assists and Gregory Rudon with 13 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 4 steals.

At the Belize Elementary School Auditorium in Belize City, the Dangriga Dream Ballers won over the Smart Belize Hurricanes by the score of 71-66.

The top scorers for the Dangriga Dream Ballers were Daniel Nolberto with 16 points, 1 assist and 4 steals and Macario Augustine with 13 points and 6 rebounds.

For the Smart Belize Hurricanes, the top scorers were Kurt Burgess with 17 points,11 rebounds and an assist and Shaquille Crawford with 10 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists.

In the game played out at the San Pedro High School Auditorium in San Pedro Town, the San Pedro Tiger Sharks defeated the Orange Walk Running Rebels by the score of 92-86.

The top scorers for the San Pedro Tiger Sharks were Andrew Ortiz with 18 points, 9 rebounds and 1 assist; Martevuius Adams with 16 points, 12 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 steals and Douglas Valley with 13 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal.

Meanwhile, the top scorers for the Orange Walk Running Rebels were James Ewing with 22 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals; Roger Reneau with 18 points, 2 rebounds, 10 assists and 3 steals and Dwayne Cummings who also scored 18 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals.

And in the first game of the week that was played on Thursday 22nd February, 2018, at the UB Gymnasium, the Smart Belize Hurricanes defeated the Belmopan Bandits by the score of 81-77.

The top scorers for the Smart Belize Hurricanes were Akeem Watters with 21 points, 6 rebounds,3 assists and 7 steals; Glency Lopez with 17 points, 2 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals and Tyson Reynold with 14 points, 10 rebounds and 2 assists.

For the Belmopan Bandits the top scorers were Luther da Shane Page with 20 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals; Kyle Pascascio with 18 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals and Stephen Williams with 13 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals.

The competition will continue this coming weekend with 4 more games on the schedule. On Friday 2nd March at 9:00 pm Verdes will entertain the Smart Belize Hurricanes at the Sacred Heart College Auditorium in San Ignacio Town.

On Saturday 3rd March, at the St. Catherine Academy Mercy Centre, the Digicell Belize City Defenders will go up against the Dangriga Dream Ballers. At the Orange Walk Multi-Purpose Centre in Orange Walk Town, the Orange Walk Running Rebels who are still looking for its first win of the campaign will go up against Verdes. And at the San Pedro High School Auditorium in San Pedro Town, the San Pedro Tiger Sharks will see actions against the Belmopan Bandits.
