Assistant Commissioner of Police Elodio Aragon Junior has officially submitted his resignation from that position. No sooner had he done so than he announced that he will be contesting the Orange Walk East constituency.

Aragon quickly rose to the upper command of the police department where he greatly contributed to the development of the department. Speaking to the Guardian, Aragon said it was now time for him to move on and the logical choice was the political arena- and does he have a lot to offer!

The son of Elodio Aragon Sr., a three time area representative in Orange Walk and a former minister of education in the UDP's 93-98 tenure; Aragon Jr. has already hit the ground, and he has done so running. In the short space since his entry, he has activated a constituency committee and has begun to make the rounds in the villages of Orange Walk East. As he did so, this past weekend he visited Carmelita village and Santa Martha village. For him it is notable that the constituency needs proper representation and he has already been able to secure resources to improve the conditions of residents in these two villages.

In the village of Carmelita, where many residents make their living off selling sand, residents drew his attention to the access road to the sand pit which for over a month had become impassable because of the rains. Within a matter of a day Aragon was able to mobilize resources, including a backhoe, and fill material to allow for access into the sandpit once again. Needless to say the residents were impressed as they are now able to once again extract sand from the pit. In the village of Santa Martha, residents have very much the same concerned with bad roads and Aragon has committed to assist with filling up some bad streets in the village. That work commenced on Tuesday.

While Aragon has already commenced the work, the official launch of his candidacy for Orange Walk East will be on Sunday, December 15th, at the Nature Park in Orange Walk town from 2 to 6 p.m. His theme isĀ  "Son of the East- Leadership for Unity and Victory." If indeed he holds true to his theme and his already proven ability to lead and deliver results, we dare say Aragon will be the next representative for Orange Walk East.
